Circus Starr was born 26 years ago when a family friend of the circus began to rely on a local hospice for daily support when they became very ill. We noticed that the hospice was struggling financially, as were most other hospices in the country. We wanted to make a difference so that’s why we started Circus Starr.
Circus Starr, a not for profit community interest company (CIC), is an all human touring circus. We currently perform in 75 towns across the UK each year. In each town we aim to make a lasting impact through engaging with local businesses and generating income via sponsorships and donations. This enables us to run our unique Donated Ticket Scheme, whereby tickets are given completely free of charge to children’s charities and community groups enabling underprivileged children and children with disabilities to enjoy a memorable day at the circus.
Circus Starr has already given over 1 million children this opportunity through our Donated Ticket Scheme and with the committed help from local interest groups, authorities, media and businesses throughout the UK, we continue to raise this figure. In 2012 Circus Starr donated £1.376m worth of tickets to UK communities. Any surplus we make from the shows is donated to our local charity partners. We continue to work with over 70 local charities in the UK each year, raising their profile within the communities in which they operate. Over the last ten years we have raised over £900,000 for local charities.
None of this would be possible without the wonderful support from our business customers to whom we extend our grateful thanks.
Here’s to another 26 years!
